Taupo!

Lake Taupo was next on the agenda, mainly for one reason- to jump out of a plane! Taupo has become the Skydiving Capital of the World where more people have jumped than anywhere else in the world. So we had to do it really! The setting is pretty spectacular too- you jump out right over the beautiful lake and also get incredible views of the Tongariro mountain range.

So we chose a company to go with and arrived there on the day full of nerves (well I was pretty nervous anyway, Chris still maintains he wasn´t!!) We had actually already done a 10,000ft skydive in Mexico a few years ago but this still didn´t stop me feeling terrified! We had planned to jump out at 12,000ft and were pretty happy with this option- mainly due to cost. However when we arrived we got chatting to the girl at the reception and were quickly persuaded to do the 15,000ft jump! This is the highest you can jump anywhere in the world and there is a whole minute of free-fall!! This change of plan did nothing to calm my nerves but I was very excited too!

We got kitted out with gloves, masks etc. and met our instructors who we would hopefully be attached to the whole time- mine was a Geordie from Newcastle and Chris´guy was a Kiwi. We all loaded into the tiny little plane and began the 15 minute flight up to 15,000ft! It was a very short 15 minutes and in no time at all I was shuffling up to the exit of the plane and looking down at the person before me fall into the air! The next bit went very quickly, I remember the feeling in my stomach as we jumped out of the plane, screaming my head off and then I remember the whole 1 minute free-fall which was just amazing! It actually seemed to go on forever just falling and falling!! My face was pushed back and I couldn't close my mouth at all! Mainly because I couldn't stop smiling and laughing- it was great!! I had a DVD made of me falling and it´s hilarious- the camera guy is shaking my hand and trying to get me to dance all mid air! Its great!

So after the minute was up my guy pulled the parachute and we slowed down..and we then began the incredible descent down to the land. The view was indeed spectacular, I could see the huge lake, the snow capped mountains and I also saw a perfect circular rainbow in the clouds! It was amazing!

We eventually landed quite smoothly about 7 minutes after jumping out of the plane and I wanted to go up again straight away!! I loved it! The buzz of it all afterwards lasted quite a long time- we were so hyper!

The rest of our stay in Taupo was lovely- we walked to Huka Falls- a lovely, turquoise waterfall and we did a jet boat ride which was great fun! We went to a great little Honey Bee Hive and spent an afternoon tasting all kinds of honey! We found a great place to stay just by the lake and had great views across to the mountains behind it.
