So after 2 amazing months in the North Island we were on our way to the South Island...which according to others we were going to love even more than the North..I wasn´t so sure! I absolutely loved the North Island and was quite sad to leave. But also quite excited!
The 3 hour ferry crossing across the Cook Strait was spectacular! In the last hour we motored through the wonderful maze of Marlborough Sounds that lie in the north of the South Island. The scenery was made even more amazing by the beautiful pink and purple sunset we witnessed as we arrived in Picton, the gateway of the South!
Picton was surprisingly lovely, mainly because of the surrounding scenery but the town itself is nice with a sweet little beach by the water. We had a picnic overlooking the harbour and the Marlborough Sounds in the distance and then had a good short walk which offered amazing views of the Queen Charlotte Sound.
